Broad Strokes

Cat Cohen’s very particular brand of delusional drama queen humor isn’t going to be for everyone, but I’ll admit, I speak her quirky rrrandom millennial language. This show does have a narrative, as she recounts a particular health scare she had three years ago, told through song, but it’s much more akin to stand up comedy or cabaret than a play, so it’s not a perfect fit to be considered for the Drama League nominations. She’s not reenacting or living the story as much as telling it. But she has a unique and distinct comedic voice and style, and the production design is lavish, grand and theatrical in the highest gothic caliber! She has a lovely singing voice, perhaps not the most brilliant vocal range or technical skill, but just right for what she’s doing. I doubt this production will garner the numbers it needs to be in contention for any nominations, but I certainly laughed plenty and enjoyed it!!
